DeSoto County Historical Society's Sixth Annual Pioneer Day and Barbecued Rib Cook-off.  Florida Frontier Family Fun! 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, March 20, in DeSoto Park, Arcadia, FL. Local legendary characters, musical entertainment, old-fashioned crafts, old-time toys and games, children's area, live animals and pony rides, traditional food including swamp cabbage, Florida authors, drawings for gifts, and more. Events announced for Highlands Hammock State Park in Sebring:

“Music in the Park” Concerts
April 17th California Toe Jam Band- Oldies
May 15th Mountain Brew- Bluegrass/Country
In the park’s picnic area. Concert admission is just $5 per person (accompanied children 12 & under admitted free of charge.) Picnic baskets/coolers are welcome and refreshments will be available at the Hammock Inn restaurant.  All ticket proceeds benefit park improvements via the Friends of Highlands Hammock. All concert performances are scheduled 7 pm to 9 pm.  Regular park admission of $6 per car is waived after 6 pm on concert nights.

An interactive musical experience the whole family can enjoy. Musicians of Primal Connection will lead participants in a drumming experience. Bring any musical instrument you would care to play, a lawn chair or blanket to sit on, and your sense of adventure! Contact Fred Leavitt at 863-402-8238 for more information. Earth Day at the Hammock
Saturday, April 17, 2010. 9 am Exotic Plant Removal Activity & 7 pm Cal Toe Jam Concert. Come help staff and volunteers remove exotic plants from native habitats from 9 am-12 noon. Come for an hour or stay for the day. All ages are welcome to participate, please bring work gloves and wear closed-toed shoes, long pants and a hat. Bug spray and drinking water are also suggested. At 7 pm, the popular California Toe Jam Band will play Oldies and Rock n Roll. Bring a lawn chair and flashlight. Park admission fees will be waived for participants in the exotic removal activity.
